Force, Momentum and Impulse

Newtons second law reminder
  • An equation for newtons second law is:
    \(\(F=ma\)\)
  • However this equation only works if the mass is constant.
    \(\(F=\frac{\Delta p}{\Delta t}\)\)
    \(\(F=\frac{m_{2}v_{2}-m_{1}v_{1}}{\Delta t}\)\)
  • These are the "better" versions of newtons second law as they can be applied to more cases.
Impulse Exam Questions
  1. 125km/h = 34.72m/s
    \(34.72\times18000 = 624960\)
    \(\frac{624960}{62000}=10.08\)
  2. \(\frac{1}{2}\times15\times2500=18750\)
    \(v=\frac{p-mv}{F}\)
    \(v=\frac{18750-(1200\times 25)}{1200}=40.625\)
  3. \(F=\frac{mv-uv}{\Delta t}\)
