Reciprocal of Polynomials

Express \(x^3-3x-2\) as the product of three linear factors.
  • Set \(x=2\)
  • \(8-6-2=0\)
  • Therefore \(x-2\) is a factor
  • Set \(x=-1\)
  • \(-1+3-2=0\)
  • Therefore \(x+1\) is a factor
  • The factored cubic is \((x-2)(x+1)(x+1)\)
