Surds

What are surds?
  • If \(n\) is an integer that is not a square number then any multiple of \(\sqrt{n}\) is called a surd.
  • Surds are irrational numbers, meaning that it's decimal version goes on forever.
  • Surds can be used to write exact answers to calculations.

  • \(\sqrt{ab} = \sqrt{a} \times \sqrt{b}\)
  • \(\sqrt{\frac{a}{b}}\) = \(\sqrt{a}\over{\sqrt{b}}\)
